THUNDERSTORM

by Joy Rutschman

The anger sprang up in me as sudden and fierce
as the thunderstorm descending upon the desert.
The intensity of the emotion shook my innermost being
where the wounded child had lain dormant for so many years.
I felt one with Mother Nature as the powerful wind
whipped sand across the highway with destructive force.
"She knows how I feel", I thought
as I watched the tall palms sway and bend
in the wake of Her wrath.
It mattered not that I had no words
to describe the pain inflicted upon my life.
My spirit merged with the roaring thunder
and crashing lightening ;
Perfect expression of my deepest feelings.
I took comfort in the storm as the earth wept in my stead
and the torrents of rain replaced the tears unshed.
When the fury subsided and the earth became calm
I received a message in a Psalm.
"They who sow in tears shall reap in joy"
Perhaps someday...
perhaps someday...the sudden storms would cease.
Further down the road I glimpsed the faint outline
of a rainbow etched in the sky
A promise of hope for my inner child and I.
